Hosts’ Choice Awards
Now that all of this year’s dishes have arrived, it’s once again time for Skep and Myrtletribe to honor to a random selection of participants based on entirely arbitrary criteria. Honestly, we can find a reason to highlight and applaud every single dish; but time grows short, and we’ll have to settle for simply getting to meet more great folks and sharing meals with one another. Thanks again, everyone!
- Early Arrival Award: Qtbeans’ Banana Bars were the first dish placed on the potluck table this year.
- Buzzer-Beater Award: Kat submitted their Rice, Veggie Balls, and Salad with less than three hours left on their clock.
- Most Anticipated Award: OnlyWonder signed up early to bring Muffins, but we didn’t see them until a few days before the deadline!
- Maverick Award: paopuleaf was the only participant bold and daring enough to submit a dish—Zucchini Quesadillas—that didn’t conform to the (entirely optional) theme. A true free-thinker, we say.
- Extra Effort Award: bikerbuddy shared a total of nine pictures alongside his Korma Curry recipe, and included a toggle for alternate vegetarian- and vegan-friendly versions (which even updated the accompanying pictures!).
- Nostalgia Award: Nat’s Tilapia Bake had Myrtletribe reminiscing about the Persian fish-and-rice dishes she grew up with.
- Skep’s Biggest Craving Award: He braved his local grocery store’s woefully-insufficient selection of soy sauces to replicate Aid’s udon, that's how badly he wanted it.
- “Why Didn't I Think Of That?” Award: Corn soup as a theme fulfiller is so obvious in retrospect. HandRambles thought of it; alas, we did not.
- Heartwarming Award: Sam’s Bolognese Pasta is more than a meal—it’s a touching tribute as well.
- “Damn The Taste Buds” Award: A tie! Skep doesn’t normally like pineapple, but he’s still taking big servings of Casper’s Cobbler and Lost Letters’ Tofu Satay.
- Best Co-Host Award: Goes to Myrtletribe, of course, for joining me on a whim and working hard to make this event the best it could be!
