Chapter 30: A Rare Lapse in Ado
The majority of this chapter focuses on the next few weeks of Elizabeth's stay at the Collinses. During this time, everybody slips into a comfortable routine, and basically nothing interesting happens.
Then it's Easter, and Mr. Darcy swings by the estate to visit his aunt, Lady Catherine.
Shortly into his stay, Darcy visits the cottage (dropping in to say hi is the polite thing to do, after all); in tow is his cousin, a sociable and well-mannered man who will be present for the next couple chapters, and then will entirely drop off the face of the earth.
Pleasantries are exchanged, during which Elizabeth prods Mr. Darcy by saying, "Hey, you happen to see Jane in London? She's been there a couple months now." The books sets this up like Elizabeth is luring Darcy into a trap to glean some information from him; but he says "no" and his demeanor says "I don't know what the hell you're talking about", and then the chapter immediately ends, really making the entire venture seem pointless.
