Subvert
I’ve been sitting on this one for a little bit now, but I’m finally ready to plug Subvert. If you’re the kind of person who thinks “wouldn’t it be nice if it was Bandcamp Friday every day?” then this might be for you.
The idea is that Subvert is an artist-owned co-op where 100% of sales goes to the musicians and labels. The platform itself survives on listener tips and optional membership fees. It’s something of an experiment, but the intentions seem good and I think it’s worth supporting something like this. Its biggest challenge at the moment is just visibility; it can’t work if people don’t find it and use it.
For me, though, this is the kick in the pants I need to stop relying on streaming services all the time. Next step: mp3 player like the old days. Discovery is a bit limited, so if you need a place to start, my profile has some of the albums I’ve featured on the home page recently.
