Chapter 45: Much Ado Wins Stupid Prizes
The following day, Elizabeth and her aunt and uncle are invited over to Mr. Darcy's estate, and he makes good on his word to take Uncle Bennet fishing. The ladies, meanwhile, spend some time in largely awkward silence with Darcy's sister (who isn't the problem) and Miss Bingley (who very much is).
This lasts until the gentlemen come back inside, at which point Miss Bingley decides to play stupid games and attempts to lower Mr. Darcy's opinion of Elizabeth. First, she mentions that the Bennets must be upset that the militia regiment has moved on, which doubles as a dig at Elizabeth favoring Mr. Wickham; but this only serves to irk Mr. Darcy who would rather not be reminded of the man who nearly ran away with his sister. Not a cute look for Miss Bingley.
Later, in private with Mr. Darcy, she reminds him of a disparaging comment he had made after they first met Elizabeth, where he had expressed disbelief at her being referred to as one of the "great beauties" of the town. Unable to hold back any longer, Darcy retorts that, well, that was when I first knew her; but now I consider her the most handsome woman I've ever met.
Pretty sure that's about the last we hear of Miss Bingley for the rest of the book.
