Why Cheers?
I’ve struggled with my (now-defunct) Links page for years. I’m clearly not particularly concerned about maintaining it with any frequency. I’m not interested in being the arbiter of which of my neighbors ends up making the cut. And at the end of the day, I’m not even convinced a links page is an effective means of connecting people and ideas.
I don’t want a link dump. I just want a Cheers.
A Cheers is a small recognition, simple and understated by design. It’s a tip of the hat, a nod of acknowledgement—but one that is rooted in time. Rather than displaying a shelf of dusty knickknacks you’ve accrued over the years, you’re reflecting on a single moment that brought you enrichment or joy where you may not have expected it.
And those occasions where we choose to lift our bottle and say, “Thanks, friend. Cheers.” …I think they express just as much about ourselves, too.
